Isimilia stone age site, a small „Monument Valley“ with relicts from stone age

Approximately 30 km south west of Iringa there is a small “Monument Valley” with spectacular towers, needles and layers formed by erosion over thousands of years. In the valley itself there are many relicts from the stone age: tools and weapons like spearheads, hand axes, blades and  sling-stones created approx. 60’000 to 30’00 years ago. The number of the relicts indicates that there must have been a large village or town.

A small museum shows some of the relicts but they can also be seen down in the valley, where they were washed out and brought to the surface. A walk down into the valley that lasts approx. an hour is very recommended to see the stunning clay and stone formations. And do not forget to take the camera with you! A visit of the site can be added to a Safari in Ruaha National park.
