9 days Selous Mikumi Ruaha

The famous southern circuit: Selous / Mikumi / Ruaha 7- 10 Days Safari

This Itinerary will take you to the famous parks in the southern circuit. The parks hosts small and large mammals including variety of birds species and reptiles. Accommodation can be at the standard or luxury lodges, luxury tented camp or budget camping sites.

Day 1: Dar es Salaam - Selous Game Reserve
Leave Dar es Salaam in the morning for the Selous Game Reserve with lunch along the way; after unpacking proceed with game drive along Rufiji River for few hours before sunset. Dinner and overnight in the Rufiji River Lodge or another lodge/camp.

Day 2: Selous Game Reserve - full day
Full day game drive along the Rufiji River and its several river arms and lakes. Pick-nick lunch under a shadow spending tree in the mid of wild nature.

Day 3: Selous Game Reserve - full day
Exploration tour with a local bushman through the bush. He will teach you tips and tricks how to survive in the bush and will give you an understanding of the local traditions. For lunch you are back in the lodge. In the afternoon you can explore the rich fauna and wildlife on a boat trip. Colourful birds are looking for food on the shores of the Rufiji River and hippos and crocodiles are cooling themselves down in the water.

Day 4: Drive from Selous Game Reserve to Mikumi National Park
After breakfast start with your drive through the Selous to the northern Gate (Matambwe) where you leave the Game Reserve. Follow the Uluguru Mountains to the trading town Morogoro which lies on the junction where the road from Dodoma (capital city of Tanzania) and the road from Tanzania hit each other. Follow the road which heads towards Mikumi. After one hour you will see the first wild animals like elephants, impalas, giraffs... from the main road before even crossing the gate. Overnight at Stanley's Kopje inside the park or Tanswiss outside the park.

Day 5: Udzungwa National Parl - Rainforest
Leave for the close Uduzungwa National parks which offers a totally different landscape. From the usually dry Mikumi floodplain you head into a green, dense rain forest. A short and easy hike will bring you on top of the Sanje waterfalls where you can enjoy a great view over the huge sugar cane fields and eat your pick-nick. A guide will attend you and explain the specialties about the rich and epidemic fauna and flora. Drive back to Mikumi.

Day 6: Mikumi National Park
Early morning game drive to the hippo pools. Relax over lunch in the Lodge and observe the animals at the close waterhole. Sunset game drive through the Mikumi flood plain.

Day 7: Drive to the Ruaha National Park
From Mikumi the road ascent along the Great Ruaha River up on the high plateau where the city Iringa is situated. Stop in Iringa for lunch and visit the local market. In the late afternoon you will arrive in the Ruaha River Lodge or at your camping site inside the park.

Day 8: Ruaha National Park
Full day game drive in the Ruaha National Park along the Ruaha River which is the lifeline of the park. 

Day 9-10: Ruaha National Park - Flight to...
Early morning walking Safari though the park. Accompanied by rangers you will follow the animal tracks in the sand and explore the wilderness of Africa from a different perspective. After lunch the plane leaves for Dar es Salaam, Mafia Island or Zanzibar where you can relax on the Beach.
