Round Trip Off The Beaten Track

This safari is for everyone looking for adventures off the beaten tourist tracks, but who still would not want to miss out on the famous Tanzania highlights, including Serengeti and the Ngorongoro Crater.

Departure from Arusha in the morning to the nearby and relatively small Manyara national park. It is amazing how many very different habitats have arisen around the lake: wetlands, groundwater forests, woodland, or grasslands, all areas have their characteristic peculiarities. Lake Manyara National Park is famous for its tree-lions which, with a bit of luck, you can spot in acacia trees. The many different water birds and the flocks of flamingos that let the surface of the lake sparkle in pink during certain seasons are unique. Overnight stop at a campsite or at a park lodge.

Lake Natron is located in the East African Rift Valley system, surrounded by volcanoes, and in a Maasai area. Except for the Ol Doinyo Lengai, all volcanoes on Tanzanian soil are extinct. The salt lake is the only breeding ground for the East African lesser flamingos. During breeding season, there are several million flamingos, an indescribable spectacle of nature. Lake Natron offers accommodation in various price segments.

Various excursions are possible, including a simple hike to cooling waterfalls or a challenging tour of the active volcano Ol Doinyo Lengai (Mountain of God). In addition, visits to hot springs, to recently discovered, more than 120'000-year-old footprints, or to one of the surrounding Massai-Bomas can be arranged.

Adventurous day trip to Wasso. Starting at the lake, the road leads up Rift Valley through a flat plain, followed by another ascent to the mountainous Loliondo area. Overnight stay at a simple guest house. Transfer to Serengeti National Park on the following morning. Wildlife viewing during the drive. Overnight stop at a lodge or campsite.

Wildlife viewing in the Serengeti savannah and a picnic. The name Serengeti means "endless prairie" in Swahili. It is undoubtedly one of the largest and most impressive wildlife reserves on our planet.

In the morning, you set off again to find wild animals. After lunch, you will tackle the journey to the Ngorongoro Crater, which is also called "Noah's Ark" because of its high concentration of wildlife.

You can spend the night at a lodge or on a camping ground above the crater rim.

On the way to the crater floor, you will see the largest mammal density in the world. About 1.5 million gnus, 250,000 zebras, and many thousands of gazelles live in this 259 km2 area. Accordingly, many big cats live here. It is also the only place in Tanzania where rhinos can still be seen. In the late afternoon, you will return to Arusha.

From Arusha you can fly back or transfer to a beach one of the islands off Tanzania.
