3-Day Safari at Mikumi National Park

This short safari is ideal for those who have little time but still want to experience Africa’s big game animals. Mikumi is the nearest national park to Dar es Salam and offers great insights into Africa's wildlife.

Mikumi is the Swahili term for the Borassus palm, which grows in many places in the park’s plains area. Lions watch over their kingdom from flat termite mounds, overlooking zebras, gnus, impala, and buffalo herds. The park is known for its high number of lions. Miombe forest (deciduous trees) dominates the east and west of the park, providing the impressive Kudus with protection. Mikumi National Park benefits from its immediate proximity to the large Selous animal protection reserve.

Departure in Dar es Salaam at about 8am. The drive to Mikumi via Morogoro, a commercial hub where you will have lunch, takes about five hours. On your way to Mikumi, you will already spot the first animals from the main road, which leads through the central area of the national park. Dinner and overnight stay at a luxurious camp at the park or outside the park area at a low-cost guest house, depending on your budget.
