Across Tanzania to Lake Tanganyika

This Safari, designed for the sporting traveller, crosses Tanzania from the Coast to the stunning Lake Tanganyika to see the Chimps. It covers hidden gems aside the normal Tourist routes. This travel can be designed in different ways according to your time and budget from 12 to 24 days or more.

As it is close to the Selous ecosystem and therefore part of it, it benefits from the highest game density of the entire conservation area. The Mikumi National Park obtains a good impression of the African animal world.

On your way to Mikumi, you will spot the first animals from the main road which leads through the National Park. Dinner and overnight stay at a luxurious camp in the Mikumi National Park or at a nearby low-cost guest house, depending on the budget.

After breakfast, you will embark on a varied half-day drive, partly along Ruaha River, up through Baobab valley to Iringa. On the way you will visit the Isimila Stone Age site. The large excavation unearthed stone tools. In the valley, sculptural pillars rise into the sky. These were formed by severe weathering of the surrounding rocks and look similar to the ones at Brice Canyon in the USA. You will spend the night at a guesthouse or lodge in Iringa.

Iringa the centre of the southern highlands is located on a high plateau which leads to pleasant temperatures. The area around Iringa is famous for craftsmanship: cloths, braids, and shoes are available at reasonable prices on the regional market.
